Doing Business Responsibly In The Age Of
Globalisation: The European Blueprint
“By in-house counsel, for in-house counsel” is the motto of ACC Europe. The 1st Corporate Counsel Symposium will link in-house counsel with leading experts from law firms and academia for an in-depth review of European law and ethics. Like all ACC Europe events, the Corporate Counsel Symposium focuses on sharing practical experience and hands-on advice, as well as in-depth analysis and is tailor made to meet the needs and aspirations of in house counsel across Europe, whether new or veteran.
Corporate Social Responsibility represents a fusion of law and ethics. The contemporary business model is being reshaped as companies are called upon to demonstrate their commitments to their community and the environment. Brands are forged and destroyed on the altar of public opinion which increasingly is concerned with social responsibility as well as personal interest. Europe has long recognized the “social contract” and, in this respect, is setting the blueprint for doing business responsibly; creating a framework of laws and regulations that require businesses to consider the impact of their activities on society at large. Understanding the principles which underlie these laws enables in-house lawyers to anticipate business issues and help make compliance a competitive advantage. Consumer protection, product safety, data privacy and environmental protection will be examined in light of the legal requirements and ethical foundations.
The two day program is open exclusively to in-house counsel and the schedule includes time for networking and social activities, to meet and talk with colleagues and other professionals and establish contacts that will help you long after the meeting. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the exciting city of Antwerp and its great university, and last but not least, you will learn how to make the most of your ACC Europe membership every day.
